Electricity plans are advertised at specific usage levels. Your home does not use exactly the same amount of electricity every month. Bill credits, free-night windows, delivery charges, and other pricing rules can change which plan is actually cheapest for you.

Is Watt Alpha free to use?

Yes. Watt Alpha is free for Texas homeowners and renters. You never pay us a fee to see plans, compare them, or enroll. When you enroll through Watt Alpha, the electricity provider pays us a commission. That commission is built into the provider's pricing, the same way it is for plans sold through any broker.

How are the plans Watt Alpha shows me ranked?

Watt Alpha estimates what each available plan would cost at your home's usage, including energy charges, bill credits, and your utility's delivery charges. Plans are ordered by that estimated total cost, lowest first. The advertised rate and the commission we earn play no part in the order. You see the estimate for every plan we show.

Does Watt Alpha show every electricity plan in Texas?

No. Watt Alpha shows plans from providers we have agreements with, and only plans that pay us a commission, because those are the plans we can help you enroll in. When broader Texas market pricing data is available, we also show how our best option compares with the lowest price in that data. We say this plainly because a partial list should never look like the whole market.

How is Watt Alpha paid?

Electricity providers pay Watt Alpha a commission when a customer enrolls in one of their plans through us. Homeowners never pay us directly. Some business customers pay an agreed advisory fee instead. The plans we show are ordered by estimated cost at your usage, never by what we earn. Our Broker Disclosure has the details.

Do I need to upload an electricity bill?

No. You can start with only your ZIP code. Watt Alpha first prices plans for a typical Texas home in your area, then lets you pick your home type, answer a few questions, or add a recent bill to sharpen the estimate. A bill helps most when your usage is unusually high or low, but it is always optional.

Can I switch providers through Watt Alpha?

Yes, for plans marked Enroll now. You can enroll in those on the Watt Alpha site in a few steps: your service address, contact details, and the identity check your new provider requires. Your new provider handles the switch with your utility. Some plans instead send you to the provider to finish, and each plan says which.

Who chooses my electricity plan, me or Watt Alpha?

You do. Watt Alpha estimates what each plan would cost at your usage and shows the tradeoffs, such as contract length, early-termination fees, and bill-credit thresholds. Nothing is selected or switched on your behalf. You choose which plan to take, if any, and you can leave the page at any point without giving us your contact details.

Will switching electricity providers interrupt my power?

No. Your local utility, such as Oncor or CenterPoint, keeps delivering power over the same wires and still handles outages. Only the company that bills you for electricity changes. In Texas a switch usually completes within a few days, and you can also schedule it for a future date, such as when your current contract ends.

Is Watt Alpha registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas?

Yes. Watt Alpha LLC is a registered electricity broker with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, under broker registration BR260144. You can confirm it in the PUCT's public broker directory. Registration means Watt Alpha must follow the PUCT's customer protection rules for brokers, including giving you a written disclosure of how we are paid.
