Visitor identity
Watt Alpha sets a first-party cookie, wa.prospect_id, on every visit. It holds a random identifier with no personal information in it, and it is what joins a completed enrollment back to the shopping session that produced it — a repeat visit, a second tab, and a deep link into a saved quote all resolve to the same visitor because of it. The cookie lasts 180 days. It is never sold. It is shared only with PostHog, the analytics processor named below, to join recordings to visits — never with anyone else. In particular it is never sent to any advertising platform, including the one named in the next section.
Advertising measurement
Watt Alpha advertises on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). To find out which ads bring people who actually get a useful answer, the site loads the Meta pixel and reports a small number of milestones to Meta — a page view, a first question answered, a quote requested, plans shown, and an enrollment started or submitted.
What is sent with those milestones: Meta’s own advertising cookies (_fbp and _fbc, which identify the browser and the ad click), your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string, the page address, and — where relevant — your ZIP code, your utility, your selected home size, and how many plans were shown.
What is never sent: your name, email address, phone number, Social Security number, date of birth, uploaded documents, or the wa.prospect_id cookie above. Watt Alpha does not send Meta any hashed or unhashed contact information.
Under Texas law this is “targeted advertising”, and you can opt out. Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser or extension: Watt Alpha honours that signal, and when it is set the Meta pixel is never loaded and nothing is reported. A browser-level ad blocker, or opting out of activity-based advertising in your Meta account settings, has the same effect for the parts each controls. Session recording
Watt Alpha records visitor sessions on the site for product improvement — how the funnel is used, where it breaks, and what to fix. The processor is PostHog: recordings are captured through its session-replay product and stored on its infrastructure. A recording is retained for 30 days and then deleted.
Recording never captures payment fields, Social Security numbers, date of birth, uploaded ID documents, or uploaded utility bills. Those fields are masked in the browser before anything is transmitted.
Deletion requests
To request deletion of a recording, a cookie, or any other data Watt Alpha holds about a visit, email hello@wattalpha.com. Include the approximate date of the visit if known.
